- Officer Thomas saw a homeless man, barefoot, walking in the rain, and decided to buy him a pair of shoes.
- When she returned, the man was however already gone, so she just kept the shoes in her car.
- Soon after, she saw another homeless man and gave him the new shoes she bought.
“Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward…”
This statement of Princess Diana must have been the inspiration of a police woman officer of Atlanta in showing kindness to a homeless man she just stumbled upon.
A few months ago, Officer Thomas was working in Atlanta’s Zone 5 when she noticed a shoeless man walking in the rain. She immediately went off to buy a pair of shoes, however, when she returned, the man was no longer there.
The kind officer kept the footwear in the trunk of her car, hoping the shoes would soon be given to someone in need.
A few weeks later, while she was working an extra job at an Atlanta Kroger, Thomas saw another barefoot man outside the store. This time, she wanted to make sure the pair of shoes would meet a new owner, so she quickly got them out of her car and gave them to the man.
Thomas had no idea somebody was filming that moment, and soon, her act of kindness was recognized when the video was posted on social media, on the page of ATL Uncensored.

“Officer Thomas did not have her BWC recording at the time (as it is not required for general citizen encounters) and was not looking for publicity on this day. She was not aware that she was being filmed during her act of kindness. She simply saw a person with a need that she could fill and did so,” the Atlanta Police Department wrote on Facebook.
“Officers with APD routinely show care and consideration to the citizens of the City of Atlanta and perform random acts of kindness without seeking applause,” the APD said. “These interactions never make the news. These deeds are just part of any given day for our men and wo men in blue.”
